What Differentiates You From Other Job Seekers?

09/29/2011

You must know and be able to communicate the answer to this question in order to receive job offers. Imagine for a moment that you are up against two other job seekers who have the same education, experience and expertise that you possess. Why should someone hire you?

These factors are also considered in the hiring process.
Which job seeker demonstrated…

  • The strongest interest in the opportunity being offered?
  • The highest level of confidence in their ability to do the job?
  • Knowledge of the company as well as the job being offered?
  • The ability to fit into the company culture?
  • Talents which would enhance current team members?
  • A track record of accomplishments and how they impacted past employers?
  • The ability to make the hiring authority “look good!”

It is up to you to show a high level of interest, stress your accomplishments and the impact on past employers, as well as a higher level of confidence in your ability to get the job done.

Finding a job is a competition and you want to WIN by obtaining the job offer. It is your job, as a job seeker, to eliminate the competition by clearly showing the hiring authority why you are the person who will provide the greatest return on their investment if they hire you! Go out there and WIN!

Don’t let Someone else’s opinion bring you down!
During your job search, you will be subject to the opinions of many people.  It is easy for you to get frustrated when those opinions screen you out from consideration of a position.  Do yourself a favor and try to stay positive.  Make sure to listen to the feedback and opinions, and decide individually which ones to take into account and put into effect, but never allow these opinions to get you down and become your reality.  Did you know that Michael Jordan was told by his high school coach that he was not good enough to play high school basketball.  Just imagine how different his life would have been if he believed that coach and quit playing basketball. Your attitude, expectations and self confidence level greatly affect the success of your job search. Starting today, expect great things to happen and kick your job search into high gear.

TIP OF THE WEEK

08/25/2011

Position yourself to be on the offensive vs. defensive in your search. As your feet hit the ground each day, do all you can to progress your job search. DO SOMETHING every day, even if you are just completing small steps in your search. Daily actions will help you build momentum and momentum will result in interviews and job offers!

Get Back Out There!
When you are knocked down, the most natural thing to do is get back up! The
same holds true for the disappointments you experience throughout your job
search process. When you get knocked down or even knocked out of the
interviewing process, you need to get back out there!

How you respond to setbacks and failures is one of the most important decisions
you make each day. Successful people fail more because they try more. Job
Seekers who are doing nothing have no setbacks or disappointments, but they
also have no chance of finding a job! It’s always a better choice to fail at
doing something than to excel at doing nothing!

All job seekers get knocked down and rejected, but it is how fast they get up
that counts. The only time you fail is when you have not learned anything from
the experience. There is always an opportunity to learn from every failure,
rejection or disappointment. In your job search adopt the following attitude: SO WHAT -NOW WHAT – NEXT!

Someone else’s opinion of you does not have to be your reality! When
you don’t get hired for a position, that does not mean you are not talented or
qualified, it merely means you were not a fit for this particular opportunity.
If another job seeker is more successful in their job search, chances are they
have heard “No” more than you. Each “No” gets you closer to
someone saying YES.

If you find yourself lacking motivation and your job search is in neutral, the
best advice I can give you is “GET BACK OUT THERE TODAY!”  Your
next employer is sitting there, waiting to hear from you.

TIP of the Week

08/17/2011

Make this the week that you EXPECT great results! When you talk to
yourself, say nice things!  If you change your expectations and self-talk,
you will present yourself with a higher level of self confidence.  This
will improve your conversations, interviews and follow up calls with hiring
authorities.  Make this the week that you really progress forward in your
search for a new opportunity!
