Your job search is a sales process so you will experience frustration, rejection and disappointments. It is so important to view these setbacks as lessons or opportunities to improve your job search techniques. Below are suggestions that should help:

Review your Career Path!! If you are not scheduling interviews, it may be time to review and possibly adjust your job targets or career path. This could result in more interviews and a new fulfilling career.

Be Prepared!! If you don’t interview well, practice answering the difficult questions like “Tell me About Yourself” and “Why did you leave your last job?” These questions are commonly asked and being prepared to answer them will help you ace your next interview.

Stay Positive!! Your attitude greatly impacts the level of success you will enjoy throughout your job search. See the cup half full and expect to succeed at identifying and landing your dream job!

The job market is improving, job offers are being made and if you stay positive and continue to improve your job search efforts, you will begin to enjoy results and obtain a job offer or offers!

Decide today to ace out your competition during job interviews. It is important for you to know why someone should hire you over another job seeker with similar experience. Often we hear Job Seekers say they don’t want to brag but you can’t think of it as bragging. If you don’t let the hiring authority know why they should hire you over your competition, they might not figure it out for themselves. You need to come across confident, interested and emphasize what you can bring to the table that others may not. We all have talents and strengths that make us individuals, so make sure to express them during the interview. A Job Interview is NOT the time to be humble or shy!

companies set a budget for hiring and many companies have not spent their
Re-contact everyone in your network, re-contact every company where you have

It can be very frustrating not to be called back on your message left with a potential employer. Too often you call and ask for information that is important to you. The hiring authority may not see the benefit to them to call you back right away if at all. Rather than asking for an update, offer to provide them with additional information. Instead of asking a question, offer new solutions to their problems. Instead of an email, send them additional positive references. Instead of asking for information, send samples of your work.

Leave a different message and the odds you WILL be called back will greatly increase!

It’s time to review your job search activities in the past three months. You can learn from your failures as much as your successes. Consider the following questions:

How many hours do you spend on your job search each day?

Have you set minimum daily standards for your search?

Do you accomplish these standards each day?

How many hiring authorities have you talked to?

How many interviews have you scheduled?

The answers to these questions can provide you with insight on whether your search is moving forward, in neutral or going in reverse. Today is the best time to put your job search in high gear. Set and attain daily standards, re-contact everyone in your personal and professional network, call all past employers and co-workers, attend job fairs and networking events and take advantage of the hiring that will be done in the last quarter of this year!
